The iPhone killer

The technology sector has grown many folds in the 21st century be it the entertainment, communication, travel etc.
One of the most promising tech. was the introduction of the Apple INC. with its "i" series namely iPods, Itouch and above all the iphone .
The iPhone proved to be a boon in the touch screen section the world over. Though the touch screens were available but the 'state of the art' multi-touch feature was a breath taker
The 'i' series have ruled the market for several year now but, the 'Next Big thing' expected is the "Iphone killer" the Android systems
Androids are operating systems like we have windows xp,vista,7 etc which was initially developed by Android Inc. but later purchased by Google Inc. Google were the 1st to realize the potentials of Android platforms and led to an ever increasing development
Android systems are OS, developed as an open-source software that is developers get a freedom to develop applications for androids without much restrictions.

POSSIBILITIES:
The possibilities of android phones are multi-dimensional. Not only does it support features of a normal phones like Messaging, camera, music, games, multimedia to name a few but also some unusual features.
The Android systems have opened a whole new world of widgets

Widgets:
Widgets are miniature applications embedded in other applications (home screens) and receive periodic updates as they are connected through internet.
As the platform is developed by Google, one can expect 'out of the box experience'. Google provides whole lot of applications developed by them as search widgets that will not only search through net but also in the phone for contacts, songs, texts etc, search by voice is also another amazing feature that lets you search the net just by spoken words. Search by image, which enables an image to be analyzed for search that will search net for similar looking images.
One of the things which I found to be truly helpful is the multi-home screen. This means that we have several home screens and we can browse just by sliding them. We can allot different tasks for different screens as in a page for games, page for applications etc.
The latest in the android segment is the 'Android Market place', similar to what we have as Apple stores. In april 2010 there were 50000+ applications that are mostly free to use.
So here we can conclude that the next big things to take the market by storm are the Android operating systems
